Special Olympics Indiana - Marion County believes children and adults with intellectual disabilities should have continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, learn sports skills, experience the joy of achievement, demonstrate courage, make friends, and be included in the community. To meet these needs, our volunteer driven organization provides a year-round program of training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports.

Marketing and Fundraising Committee

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old.

Description
Special Olympics Indiana - Marion County provides year-round sproting opportunities for residents of the Indianapolis area with intellectual disabilities. The sports offered include Basketball, Bowling, Athletics, Aguatics, Bocce, Softball, Golf, Flag Football, Soccer, Volleyball and Power Lifting. Each sport meets one night per week for approximately 2 hours throughout the season (generally 8-10 weeks). Each of our volunteers is required to attend a Coach/Volunteer Orientation within 6 months of their start date. This 2 hour class is held approximately every 2 months at various locations in Indianapolis. As a member of the Marketing and Fundraising Committee you are required to attend all meetings to assist in planning activities promoting the Special Olympics mission and increase community awareness and attend and assist at these events. A marketiing or fundraising background is desired but not required.

Official/Referee

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Description

This 2 hour class is held approximately every 2 months at various locations in Indianapolis. As a game official you are required to have exceptional knowledge of the rules of the sport (any modifications will be addreseed by the Club Director prior to the start of the game), encourage good sportsmanship among athletes, coaches and fans, and ensure the score is correct.

Licensed officials prefered, although those with exceptional knowledge of the sport are welcomed.

Scorekeeper

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old.

Description

The sports offered include Basketball, Bowling, Athletics, Aguatics, Bocce, Softball, Golf, Flag Football, Soccer, Volleyball and Power Lifting. Each sport meets one night per week for approximately 2 hours throughout the season (generally 8-10 weeks). Each of our volunteers is required to attend a Coach/Volunteer Orientation within 6 months of their start date. This 2 hour class is held approximately every 2 months at various locations in Indianapolis. As a scorekeeper you are required to keep track of the score on paper and/or scoreboard and make sure substitutions are done correctly. No formal training is required as the Club Director can teach you before the game begins.

Coach

Description

The sports offered include Basketball, Bowling, Athletics, Aguatics, Bocce, Softball, Golf, Flag Football, Soccer, Volleyball and Power Lifting. Each sport meets one night per week for approximately 2 hours throughout the season (generally 8-10 weeks). Each of our volunteers is required to attend a Coach/Volunteer Orientation within 6 months of their start date. This 2 hour class is held approximately every 2 months at various locations in Indianapolis. As a coach you are required to attend all practices, games and tournaments; have knowledge of game rules; determine line-up, fill out appropriate line-up card and turn into scorer's table in a timely manner; practice good sportsmanship and make sure your team is acting appropriately; and contact players to remind them of games.

General knowledge of the sport. A Coach/Volunteer orientation must be attended within 6 months of the start date. Coaches must commit to the whole season.
