Neighborhood Clean Up

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Groups can volunteer together at this opportunity.

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Description
Typically conducted on Saturday mornings, neighborhood clean ups are essential to keeping the greater Fountain Square area presentable. Groups may meet at either the SEND offices or the worksite area. Please bring your own work gloves. Trash bags and dumpsters will be provided.

Demolition

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Groups can volunteer together at this opportunity.

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Description
Houses to be rehabilitated by SEND usually need extensive demolition before construction can begin. Volunteers may need to lift heavy objects and swing a sledgehammer. Please bring your own work gloves, face masks, and come dressed in appropriate clothing. Tools will be provided.

Landscaping/Planting

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Groups can volunteer together at this opportunity.

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Description
SEND creates and maintains several public greenspaces throughout our boundaries and works closely with partnering organizations such as Keep Indianapolis Beautiful and Indy Parks to provide safe, pleasant and attractive greenspaces. Depending on the worksite, volunteers may be needed for plantings, weeding, brush removal or trash pick up. Please bring your own work gloves and dress appropriately. Tools will be provided.

Administrative/Office Work

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Description
Assistance is often needed with mailings and database management. Special skills (Excel, Access, etc.) may be required. Volunteers assisting in these areas will be required to work during normal SEND business hours.

Volunteer Coordination

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Groups can volunteer together at this opportunity.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Description
Volunteer Coordinators are trained by SEND staff and committee members to organize neighborhood clean ups and some construction related projects.
Notes / Special Requirements
Volunteers interested in serving as Volunteer Coordinators will be required to attend training sessions with other volunteer groups.

Home repair/light construction

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Groups can volunteer together at this opportunity.

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Description
On occasion we receive requests that fall outside our program guidelines or capacity. Sample projects might include building wheelchair ramps, adding handrails, exterior painting or fencing and landscaping.

Specialized skills or tools may be required depending on the projects at hand.
