New World Youth Orchestras

Our mission is to provide young musicians the opportunity to perform traditional and contemporary masterworks. Students are offered a myriad of programs that nurture the whole musician and encourage leadership and discipline, while cultivating an appreciation of music and the Arts in the community.

Ticket Sales/Registration

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Groups can volunteer together at this opportunity.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Description
We need about 5 adult or responsible young adult volunteers per concert cycle. The concerts take place at various venues, but mostly at the Hilbert Circle Theatre in downtown Indianapolis. Dates are November 12/13, February 25/26, March 4/5, and May 13/14

Backstage Monitor

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Groups can volunteer together at this opportunity.

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old.

Description
Register students in backstage area before concert, guide students to assinged sears during performance, collect music after each concert cycle. The dates for the dress rehearsals and concerts are: March 4/5 and May 13/14
Notes / Special Requirements
We will welcome any volunteer interested in working with young people. Concerts usually take place at Hilbert Circle Theatre on the Circle in Indianapolis.

Music Cataloging

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Groups can volunteer together at this opportunity.

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old.

Description
Help catalog our music library, as well as organize and tally the parts for each concert cycle. The busy times are March, April, and June.
Notes / Special Requirements
Some knowledge of music and orchestras is helpful for this opportunity.

Ensemble Set-Up for Youth Orchestra

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Groups can volunteer together at this opportunity.

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old.

Description
Each ensemble needs 4-5 volunteers per one-month interval for setting up rehearsal space according to diagram, and to help tear down after rehearsals. Volunteers will have detailed diagrams for setting up chairs and music stands for each rehearsal, which will take place either at the Hilbert Circle Theatre downtown on the circle, or at the Jordan College of Fine Arts on the Butler University Campus.
Notes / Special Requirements
This is a position for you who like physical work! Some heavy lifting is involved, but most is moderate work.

Ensemble Secrtary for Youth Orchestra

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Groups can volunteer together at this opportunity.

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old.

Description
The NWYO consists of four ensembles: Debut; Philharmonic Orchestra; Symphony Orchestra; Chamber Music/Preparatory Winds. Each ensebles needs 1-2 Ensemble Secretaries per concert cycle who will take attendance, gather program notes from volunteers/conductor, and help prepare the concert roster. There are three concert cycles per year. September-November, Janary-March, and March-May.
Notes / Special Requirements
Volunteers will need to attend Sunday afternon rehearsals, which are held either at Hilbert Circle Theatre or Jordan College of Fine Arts on the Butler Campus. Volunteers may pick the most convenient cycle, or opt to serve for a whole year. Volunteers will be given detailed instructions of responsibilities as well as the tools for fulfilling the various tasks. Personal involvement with our young musicians, an opportunity to hear great music enthusiastically performed, and a chance to use our organizational skills are a few of the benefits of these positions.
