Indiana University Cancer Center is a place where recovery and comfort come not only from medical care, but also from the differences our volunteers make in the lives of our patients, families and visitors. Volunteers, patients, physicians and staff work as a team to provide the best cancer care.

BMT Clinic-Infusion Assistant

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Description
Provide services to Bone Marrow Transplant Clinic staff in an effort to support the efficiency of the clinic and improve patient experiences.
Notes / Special Requirements
All volunteers need to compete volunteer on-boarding process, complete IU Cancer Centerter training, and complete site specific training.

Cancer Pavilion Patient Guide

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old.

Description
Patient Guides greet every patient and visitor entering the building and provide them with tools to navigate throughout the facility. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, giving directions and office locations, locating wheelchairs, escorting and/or transporting patients and visitors to desired destination and providing customer service to help people feel welcome and comfortable within the facility. Volunteers are based at the main entrance to the Indiana University Cancer Pavilion, but work throughout the facility as designated by patient needs.

CompleteLife Assistant

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Description
Volunteers provide support services to CompleteLife, psychosocial services, staff and patients while gaining interactive experiences with professionals and practitioners in the field.

Family Resource Center Volunteer

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Description
Family Resource Center volunteers help patients and visitors identify resources and conduct internet searches for cancer-specific information. The Family Resource Center is located on the 2nd floor of the Indiana University Cancer Pavilion.

First Monday Customer Service Volunteer

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Description
First Mondays volunteers will assist staff in preparing the facility for First Mondays events by setting up tables, preparing resource information, coordinating audio/visual equipment needs, greeting and registering incoming participants and escorting or transporting participants through food lines and to desired group locations. First Mondays (evening, 1st Monday each month)

Infusion Clinic Volunteer

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Description
Infusion Clinic volunteers interact with patients undergoing treatment by offering emotional support, answering questions, providing patients and visitors with recreational activities and comfort items and communicating patient needs to clinical staff. The Infusion Clinic is located on the 3rd floor of the Indiana University Cancer Pavilion.

Multidesciplinary Clinic Volunteer Assistant

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Description
Volunteers will provide support to staff in the Multidisciplinary clinic in an effort to reduce support the efficiency of the clinic, reduce patient wait times and improve patient experiences.

Pharmacy Volunteer-Infusion

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Description
Volunteers will provide support services to the clinical pharmacist/infusion manager and staff, while gaining interactive experience directly related to the role of pharmacists and clinical staff in a private based infusion clinic.
Notes / Special Requirements
Volunteers must have a high school diploma and be enrolled in a post-secondary institution with focus in a health-related career. All volunteers need to compete volunteer on-boarding process, complete IU Cancer Center training, and complete site-specific training.

Radiation Oncology Patient Assistant

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Description
Volunteers provide support services to radiation oncology staff and to positively impact patient and visitor experiences, while gaining interactive experience with patients, visitors, staff and technology associated with radiation oncology.

Snack Cart Volunteer

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old.

Description
Snack Cart volunteers circulate throughout the waiting rooms in outpatient clinics offering complementary snacks and beverages to patients and visitors throughout the Indiana University Cancer Pavilion.

Avaiable days: Monday-Thursday from 10am-2pm. All volunteers need to compete volunteer on-boarding process, complete IU Cancer Center training, and complete site-specific training.

Unit Patient Liaison Programs

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Description
Inpatient volunteers will provide customer and support services to patients, families, visitors and staff. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, visiting each patient hourly, answering call lights and communicating patients’ needs to clinical staff, assisting patients during meal time, distributing comfort items, participating in recreational activities and providing emotional support to patients, families and visitors on the unit. + Inpatient Oncology + Surgical Oncology
Notes / Special Requirements
Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age with an interest in healthcare and/or experience with cancer-related conditions.

Women's Center Volunteer

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Description
Provide support to staff in the Women’s Center in an effort to support the efficiency of the clinic, reduce patient wait times and improve patient experiences.

Outpatient Liaison Programs (daytime)

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Description
Outpatient volunteers are assigned in out-patient clinics to provide customer services to patients, families and visitors. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, offering emotional support during scheduled appointments or treatments, acting as a liaison between waiting patients and clinical staff, providing recreational activities and comfort items during long waits and directing patients, families and visitors to other resources within the facility. Volunteers also provide staff with support services such as maintaining a steady flow of patients through exam rooms and transporting medical information and materials between clinics. + Bone Marrow Transplant Clinic + Multidisciplinary Clinic + Pharmacy + Radiation Oncology + Women’s Center

Administrative volunteer

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Description
Administrative volunteers will assist various departments with clerical and administrative functions, including but not limited to, making follow-up telephone calls, preparing patient education materials, assisting with chart management and various computer-related activities. * CompleteLife * Hematology Oncology (Administrative Division) * Human Resources * Radiation Oncology

Health Fair or Special Events (as needed)

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old.

Description
Health Fair or Special Event volunteers will provide support to staff during community scheduled events. Volunteer needs will vary according to event and may require volunteers to complete special training to be knowledgeable regarding topics discussed during the health fair or community event.

Special Projects (daytime)

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old.

Description
Special project volunteers will assist staff in preparing and executing large projects. Project-Based Volunteer assignments will vary in duration and may include projects such as large mailings, making reminder phone calls, preparing educational materials or handouts. Other tasks may be assigned to volunteers as designated by the project.
