Indy Reads mission is to improve the reading, writing or speaking skills of adults in Marion County who read at or below the sixth grade level or who are learning English as a second language.

Literacy Tutors

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Description
Meet one-on-one or with a small group to help adult students to improve their reading, writting and spelling skills.
Notes / Special Requirements
2 hour orientation and required training. Volunteers are asked to make a one-year commitment to the program. Tutors and students usually meet twice a week based on scheduling preferences. Tutoring takes place at Indianapolis-Marion County Library branches or public places.

English as a Second Language (ESL) Tutors

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Description
Work with a small group of students on speaking, understanding, and writing English

Student Interviewers

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Description
Make the first contact with potential students and administer assessments to determine the reading and speaking level of students.

Computer Lab Consultants

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Description
Help students and their tutors use reading, writing and English instructional software in our computer lab.
Notes / Special Requirements
2 hour orientation and required training. Volunteers are asked to make a one-year commitment to the program.

General Volunteer for Indy Reads

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Description
Many volunteer opportunities exist such as office helpers, board members, serving on committe, or helping with fairs and events.
