Indianapolis Urban League

The mission of the Indianapolis Urban League is to assist African-Americans other minorities and disadvantaged persons to achieve social and economic equality. The Indianapolis Urban League implements its mission through advocacy, Bridge Building among the races, direct program services, technical assistance, and fact-finding and information dissemination. The IUL implements its mission with a myriad of social programs. As the Urban League movement progresses through a transitional period in its rich history, the local IUL will continue to work toward the empowerment of the African American community via advocacy, direct human services, and self-sufficiency programs and initiatives to achieve racial tolerance and racial equity.

MathTutors

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Description
We are looking for juniors or seniors who are interested in being peer math and/or reading tutors at T. C. Howe Academy and George Washington Community School. The program targets freshman and sophomore African American males. We are implementing a college access program at both sites. The” Project Ready” curriculum was developed and branded by our National Urban League. It includes math, reading, reading comprehension, social development and cultural and global awareness components. This will be an after-school program. We will be at each school twice a week, Mon – Thurs.

IUL Back-to-School Block Party

Starts: August 15th, 2008

Groups can volunteer together at this opportunity.

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old.

Description
We need volunteers for our BTSBP at IUL on Saturday, August 16, 2008 from 11 AM to 1 PM. We will be distributing book bags and school supplies to 600+ elementary and middle school students. We will be stuffing the book bags on Friday, August 15, 2008 from 11 AM until finished.
