Habitat for Humanity of Greater Indianapolis, Inc. was founded in 1987 by a group of volunteers who believed in the Habitat mission: Habitat for Humanity of Greater Indianapolis joins with low-income families and other community partners to provide home ownership opportunities and build communities of hope as an expression of God's love.

Mentor

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Description
Assist Habitat for Humanity families transitioning to home ownership. Mentors will work directly with one family in Habitat's home ownership program and provide encouragement, support and advice as needed. Mentors will serve as advocates for their family partner and assist them in their home education program and general development. Mentors must have the time to commit themselves to the family partners and make themselves available via phone. Mentors should also be capable of committing to their family partner for their duration in the Habitat home ownership process (usually 1-2 years) Contact Tracy Perkins-Pearcy at tperkinsp@indyhabitat.org or 921-2121 ext. 120 if you are interested in this volunteer opportunity.

Office Volunteer

Description
Office Hours: M-F anytime between 9 and 4.

Homestore Volunteer

Description
HomeStore Hours: M-S anytime between 8:30 and 2:30.

Sponsorship Volunteer

Description
Our sponsors help us stay afloat here at Habitat… If you’re interested in the business side of life, come on out to our Habitat office and join our Resource Development Department in compiling sponsorship packets and helping with daily operations!

Tiger Team Volunteer

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Description
Our volunteer Tiger Team is full of awesome men and women who regularly give their time to Habitat. They work so hard, in fact, that they could use some help themselves! We would like to bring in some folks to volunteer with our Tiger Team every Tuesday of 2007! Whether you’d like to come once, twice or every Tuesday, we would love to have you!

Computer Installation and Education

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Description
We are so excited! Through a partnership with AT&T, Access All and One Economy, we are able to provide FREE computers to our Habitat partner families this year! All we need now is your help installing them! We could use a hand supervising the computer installation, installing the computers and helping our Habitat families learn how to use their new gift!

WELCOME VOLUNTEERS AT THE BUILD SITE!

Description
As soon as the sun is shining again, Habitat hammers will be swinging! For every 6-week build, we have 14 volunteer days, and we could use some help welcoming our volunteers and getting them signed in on each of these volunteers days! We would love to have you, or a group of you and your friends/co-workers, come out at the beginning of our volunteer shifts to help us out!

MENTOR YOUNG VOLUNTEERS!

Description
Many youth look to Habitat for a place to serve, work and learn…and we want to give them the most beneficial experience we have to offer! We could use your help once a week or once a month, just to work side by side our younger volunteers, showing them the ropes and offering a positive role model to look up to. (This spot is mainly on Tuesdays and Thursdays!)

JOIN OUR TEAM AS A CASHIER!

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Description
We have a huge HomeStore full of donated home goods which we sell to the community at a highly discounted rate; the profit recycles back into building more homes in Indy. We are happy to train you on the cash register – it’s a pretty simple system. Our top priority shifts to fill are Mondays and Thursdays. We can often use help cashiering on Fridays and Saturdays, too!

PICK UP DONATIONS

Starts: March 21st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Description
We get calls from folks who have great items to donate all the time, but we need able hands to help bring those items to us! Come out and ride along to help pick up donations, or learn to drive our box van! This opportunity is available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

HELP OUT IN THE OFFICE AS A DONATION COORDINATOR

Description
Help us chat with the organizations and families who want to donate new items to our HomeStore! Shifts available any day of the week.

ORGANIZE OUR WAREHOUSE

Description
Our HomeStore is being updated, renovated and organized weekly. We would love to have someone come in to help out with general tasks in the store! Shifts available Monday through Saturday!

CONSTRUCTION ASSISTANT

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Description
Want to learn about the construction industry? We would love to give you hands on experience working one-on-one with our Construction Superintendent out on the job site and here at our office! We’re looking for help any/every day of the week. *Some construction experience helpful.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
