Family Service of Central Indiana, Inc.
Families First strengthens families to help them overcome typical marital or family conflicts and more serious challenges like domestic violence and chemical dependency; provides training and support for individuals to become better parents, caregivers, money managers, supervisors, and employees; and empowers adults to continue to live independently as they learn to cope with aging, mental and/or physical challenges. In 2010, over 9,000 individuals from Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Marion, and Morgan counties were guided toward their goal of a stronger, healthier family by the caring counselors at Families First. Founded in 1835, Families First is the oldest social service not-for-profit organization in Central Indiana.

Below are some opportunities for you to get involved with this great organization. But don't limit yourself to just these! If you're excited about their mission, give them a call to see what other needs you may be able to fill. Thanks for serving and have fun making a difference!

Description
Do you like spending time and playing games with children? Family Service is looking for caring volunteers to assist with child care during our support groups for mothers who are victims of domestic violence. Volunteers provide a supervised, safe and nurturing environment for children with ages ranging from newborn to school-aged. Many of the children that volunteers interact with have been affected by domestic violence and other traumatic events.
Notes / Special Requirements
Volunteers are needed at several locations on the westside and downtown on the following days and times:
- Tuesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. both on the Westside and downtown
- Thursday evenings from 5:45 - 8:30 p.m. both on the Westside and downtown
- Friday evenings from 6-8:30 p.m. downtown
- Saturday evenings from 6-8:30 p.m. on the Eastside
- Monday through Thursday mornings from 8:30 - 11 a.m. downtown.
Weekly time commitments and schedules are flexible, however, volunteers are asked to make a commitment of at least six months. Because of the nature of this opportunity, Family Service must conduct background checks on prospective volunteers over the age of 18.
