3rd Floor Waiting

Description
1. Guest Relations Accountabilities: Proactively greets all visitors and guests in a serviceable manner. Continually demonstrates a personable and helpful demeanor to all visitors and guests while providing individuals with information pertinent to the unit or service area being visited. With the assistance of the Guest Relations Associate, arranges for concierge-type services as requested by visitors and guests. Provides backup support to the Guest Relations Associate for lunch and/or break coverage.

2. Guest Relations Accountabilities: As needed, when directed by the Coordinator of Guest Relations and Volunteer Services, Guest Relations Assistants will assist the Marketing Department with temporary projects and/or needs.

Guest Relations Accountabilities should be limited to ensure the volunteer is available to fulfill the primary function of this role � to be of service visitors.

5B Patient Services Volunteer

Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Patient Services Volunteer: Volunteers may provide interaction through conversation or reading newspapers and books to guests when requested. Volunteer should be willing to become familiar with and follow unit practices and procedures, including responding to call lights. When directed, individuals may assist visitors and guests in stocking room refrigerators, straightening up rooms, taking out trash and help guests place orders for meal trays. During periods of inactivity or low census, volunteers may assist unit associates through checking nutrition rooms, tending to the coffee machines, wiping down equipment, or assisting in stocking supplies.

2. Secondary Accountabilities: May assist with other duties within Guest Relations or unit tasks as assigned. May answer information desk telephone and direct callers to the appropriate nursing station. May assist in stocking and replenishing supplies as needed.

Description
Duties: REPORTS TO: Guest Relations Associates

SUMMARY: Volunteers serving as a the 5th Floor Guest Relations Assistant will provide support to the Medical/Surgical and Intensive Care Units. Through the 5 Maxims, the volunteer is expected to exceed customer expectations and ensure every guest encounter is a positive experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Guest Relations Accountabilities: Proactively �do more� for all visitors and associates. Provide assistance and support to all guests who enter into the 5th Floor waiting area. Provide visitor patient information as requested within the scope of Clarian North Medical Center�s privacy policy. Personally escort all visitors and guests to the specific room location of a patient. Assist in the maintenance and restocking of coffee machines.

2. Secondary Accountabilities: May assist with other duties within Guest Relations as assigned. May answer information desk telephone and direct callers to the appropriate nursing station. May assist in stocking and replenishing supplies as needed.

Secondary accountabilities should be limited to ensure the volunteer is able to fulfill the primary function of this role, to assist Educational Services Associates.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Administration/Clerical Services Responsibilities: Provides assistance to department associates through stuffing, entering evaluations, program tracking and assembling of educational materials, mailings and information packets.

2. Secondary Accountabilities: May assist with special events and new associate orientation as needed.

Secondary accountabilities should be limited to ensure the volunteer is able to fulfill the primary function of this role, to provide administrative assistance to departments.

REPORTS TO: Child Life Specialists

SUMMARY: This position exists to assist the Child Life Specialists, and on occasional basis the associates of Pediatrics and Postpartum. Individuals assigned to this position will assist in promoting normal growth and development of hospitalized children while decreasing fears and anxieties associated with hospitalization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Child Life Responsibilities: Assists Child Life Specialists through providing craft/activity preparation and organization. Maintains play/activity rooms through cleaning toys and organizing activities as necessary. May visit with children/guests on a one-on-one basis as approved by Child Life. Works closely with Child Life Specialists to promote hospitalization as a positive experience for the entire family. May transport children to and from the play/activity room as needed.

2. Secondary Accountabilities: May assist with answering department telephones and directs callers to the appropriate individual. Completes filing, chart breakdown and collating as necessary and needed. May assist in stocking and replenishing supplies as needed.

SUMMARY: This position exists to assist the Childbirth Education department in promoting family health and wellness through prenatal education. Through the 5 Maxims, the volunteer is expected to exceed customer expectations and ensure every client/family encounter is a positive experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Childbirth Education Accountabilities: Is responsible for assisting the Childbirth Education department in providing quality family education throughout the childbearing cycle, effectively facilitating groups of adult learners under the direction of an RN Childbirth Educator, providing parents with accurate, unbiased information in a supportive, non-judgmental classroom atmosphere.

2. Secondary Accountabilities: May assist with other duties within Childbirth Education as assigned such as stocking and replenishing supplies as needed..

Emergency Department Assistant

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Description
SUMMARY: This position exists to assist the Emergency Department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Emergency Department Responsibilities: Provides assistance in the Emergency Department waiting room through giving directions, and serving as a guide from the Emergency Department to other areas of the hospital. Provides support to families in the Emergency Department waiting area by checking on visitation and escorting families/guests to Emergency Department patients and through serving as a point of information surrounding triage. When directed, assists Triage in escorting patients to Emergency Department rooms or ambulance crews to other areas of Clarian North Medical Center. When needed assists Emergency Department associates with �crowd control� � working with families and guests visiting individuals being seen in the ED. May participate in activities with children in the Emergency Department waiting area, calling upon the Child Life Specialists as needed. Cleans toys following guidelines for infection control and keeps department video log up to date. May have basic patient transportation responsibilities (wheelchairs).

2. Secondary Accountabilities: Observes patient/Emergency Department interactions as directed by Emergency Department associates. Assists in answering department telephones and directs callers to the appropriate individual. Completes filing, chart creation and breakdown and collating as necessary and needed. May assist in stocking and replenishing supplies as needed or running files to other departments/areas.

Pet Therapy Volunteer

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Description
SUMMARY: This position exists to provide normal life experiences and promote psychosocial health of hospitalized individuals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Pet Therapy Acountabilities: Working closely with Therapy Dog Program escort, visit identified patients and families with therapy dog. Share information about dog such as its breed, eating habits and unique characteristics.

2. Secondary Accountabilities: Because of the unique nature of the Therapy Dog Volunteer Program, secondary accountibilities have been eliminated to allow the volunteer to focus on appropriate interactions between the therapy dog and guests.

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

� Accountability to the Clarian North Culture of Service and Maxims.

� Handler must be at least 18 years of age and make a semi-regular time commitment.

� All therapy dogs must be certified by a reputable therapy dog organization.

� Successful completion of an initial interview with one or more therapy dog committee members.

� Furnishment of documentation of vaccination records, proof of liability insurance and a copy of the current ID card by the certifying therapy dog organization.

� On an annual basis, all volunteers in the therapy dog program must furnish proof of ongoing registration with a reputable therapy dog organization guranteeing appropriate dog health screening by a veterinarian, vaccination and valid liability insurance.

� Requires strong ability to interact with tact and discretion. Proven or demonstrated ability to work with children and adults of all ages and ability levels. Individual must be able to interact appropriately and effectively with patients, families, physicians, associates and Child Life Specialists.

� Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as a high level efficiency and displayed confidence with a warm personality and outgoing demeanor.

Directions: Prospective Therapy Dog volunteers and their dogs must first meet and interview with a Therapy Dog Committee Member. Because of the unique nature of the Therapy Dog program, Therapy Dog Committee members will make decision surrounding acceptance into the program based on qualifications, skills, knowledge and abilities.

Rehab Services Assistant

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Description
SUMMARY: This position exists to assist Rehabilitation Services staff. The Rehabilitation Services Assistant is cross-trained to work in all areas of Rehabilitation Services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Rehabilitation Accountabilities: Demonstrates basic knowledge and layout of the Rehabilitation Services and the department. Provides and maintains for the orderly appearance of the exercise area to ensure patients and associate safety. Sets up equipment including mat tables, parallel bars, assistive gait devices, splints, bikes, treadmills, elliptical and other modalities relevant to therapy. Cleans equipment, toys and patient contact surfaces such as bikes, mat tables, counters, weights as outlined in the policy and procedure manual. Ensures adequate levels of supplies are maintained by restocking supplies and communicating the need for additional supplies to the appropriate personnel. Helps prepare for Activities of Daily living (ADL) and splinting. Transports patients via wheelchair to and from the Rehabilitation Services area as needed or requested by the attending therapist.

2. Secondary Accountabilities: Observes patient/therapist interventions as directed by the therapist or therapist assistant. Updates personal knowledge of therapeutic interventions through actively reading, listening and observing the therapists. Assists in answering department telephones and directs callers to the appropriate individual. Completes filing, chart breakdown and collating as necessary and needed.

1. Welcome Ambassador Accountabilities: Proactively greets all visitors and guests in a serviceable manner, offering to personally escort/guide them to their intended destination within the hospital. Demonstrates a personable and helpful demeanor to all visitors and guests from the first point of acknowledgement to leaving the customer at their intended destination. Is continually active in seeking out individuals in need of assistance or direction. Maintains own detailed escort tracking information to assist the Coordinator in the reporting of the progress of the program.

2. Guest Relations Accountabilities: As needed, when directed by the Coordinator of Volunteer Services, Welcome Ambassadors will assist the Guest Relations Associates with guest relations needs (i.e. answering questions, fielding phone calls, looking up patient information and sorting mail).

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

1. Commitment and accountability to the Clarian North Culture of Service and Maxims.

2. Requires ability to be mobile with capability of assisting an individual in a wheelchair.

3. Must demonstrate discretion and strong ability to observe confidentiality in handling sensitive information.

4. Individual must be able to interact appropriately and effectively with patients, families, and Clarian North Associates.

5. Requires excellent communication skills with personable and outgoing demeanor.

6. Must have a comprehensive knowledge of the hospital and facility layout once on-the-job training is completed.

7. Welcome ambassadors are needed Monday through Fridays at varying times. Scheduling is flexible.
