Animalia offers a number of volunteer positions for teens (14 and older) and adults to satisfy the variety of interests of those looking to help animals. All Volunteer positions work closely with ANIMALIA’s professional staff to support our efforts of Education, Responsibility, and Conservation.

Facility Maintenance

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Groups can volunteer together at this opportunity.

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old.

Description
For the handy person who likes to build and fix things, this is the position for you! The wear and tear that animals exert on their housing is exceptional and sometimes things need to be repaired or built anew. Whether it’s constructing an outdoor animal enclosure, installing a perch, stringing together wire mesh, painting a wall, or clearing a floor drain, there are always things to do.
Notes / Special Requirements
- Complete and submit an on-line ANIMALIA Volunteer Application. - ANIMALIA Staff will contact each applicant to inform them if volunteer positions are currently available and/or to schedule an interview - Attend a Volunteer Interview - The screening interview allows the staff of ANIMALIA to learn as much as possible about the person's interests, experiences, and motivation and to assess the needs and expectations of ANIMALIA at that time. Candidates will review liability paperwork and go on a short facility tour.

Selection Procedures: - Candidates will be contacted by ANIMALIA to be informed of selection/non-selection. - If candidates are selected, they will be required to get a limited criminal history check from the police and will need to have a Tuberculosis (TB) test conducted at their doctor’s office. - On the first day, Volunteers will receive a Safety Orientation.

Animal Care

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old.

Description
It’s a dirty job, but somebody’s got to do it! It is also very rewarding to provide basic animal care including cleaning, feeding, and enrichment for ANIMALIA’s numerous small mammals, reptiles, and birds. Some animal contact is involved. Keeping our animal enclosures clean is a high priority as it can impact the health and well being of our animals.

Education Outreach

Description
If you are looking to help spread the word and are willing to be in front of a crowd, this is just your thing! Volunteers will be trained how to handle a variety of animals (reptiles, birds, mammals) to assist ANIMALIA staff during Education Outreach Programs. Volunteers are required to learn a diverse array of background information on a variety of animals and their interrelationships in the animal kingdom.

Socialization

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Groups can volunteer together at this opportunity.

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old.

Description
Since most of our animals are used in Education Outreach Programs, they need regular socialization in order to be comfortable around people. This hands-on position requires the careful and attentive interaction with our animals both indoors and outdoors. This is much more than just “playing” with the animals. Each social interaction has a point and purpose to fulfill.

Administrative tasks

Starts: March 1st, 2009

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old.

Description
You love animals, but perhaps you aren’t necessarily interested in being that hands on with them. That’s OK. You likely have other skills that can support the efforts of ANIMALIA. This position does require basic computer skills. You will have the opportunity to update animal records, research information for animal fact sheets, help with promotional mailings, etc.
